What is wrong with habits and patterns in our lives?
To have our day ordered, to have routine and things mapped out is good….TO A POINT.

Where habits become a challenge and can cause issues, is your unawareness of them, your unwillingness to change or not knowing how to change them.
Most habits prove how unconscious you are, and keep you from change. “A habit, from the standpoint of psychology, is a more or less fixed way of thinking, willing, or feeling acquired through previous repetition of a mental experience.” Habitual behavior often goes unnoticed in persons exhibiting it, because a person does not need to engage in self-analysis when undertaking routine tasks. Habits are sometimes compulsory. The process by which new behaviours become automatic is habit formation. Old habits are hard to break and new habits are hard to form because the behavioural patterns we repeat are imprinted in our neural pathways, but it is possible to form new habits through repetition. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habit
Why do I believe habits can be destructive….when you take into account that every second of the day there are billions of changes happening inside of your bodies, in the cells of your body – respiration, elimination, reproduction of cells, death, and production of chemicals, hormones etc, plus much more. On the outside of your body there are billions of changes going on – people dying, people changing jobs, people aging, being born, starting school, finishing school, seeds germinating, plants and trees dying or being harvested, climate changes, wind changes, road works, buildings built or pulled down…
the only constant in life is change!
When we have habits, routines and ruts in our lives there is potential that these are restricting seamless and easy change within us, which affects our mental, physical and emotional health. (Just to give an example how illness can occur in the body and how emotions play a role – there is a perception from Chinese Medicine that Arthritis in the body can come about as a result of rigidity in thinking and actions, not being flexible or adaptable.

Fear is an emotion that has a large effect on our Chi – Vital Energy – and when we are paralysed or stuck in our fears, the vital energy become stagnant, our thoughts get stuck in a self repeating pattern and the blood becomes more stagnant.
Fear of change is something that is prevalent in our society today.
When we are adaptable and flexible in our lives, then our inner being can be more comfortable, flexible and adaptable with the changes that are happening within.
Habits keep us from being conscious, from awareness of ourselves and others, and from our environment.
They keep us asleep to ourselves and our surroundings.
To discover your individual patterns and habits and determine whether they are keeping you stuck or serving you in any way start to:
- Observe the things you do – is there a particular order, structure and pattern?
- Can you do it in a different order.
- Can you drive down a different street occasionally on the way to work?
- Can you walk a different route, or go the opposite way occasionally?
- Observe how triggered you are with these questions. If you have been curious enough (and brave enough) to try something differently, then how did you find it?
- Observe other peoples responses (if they notice!) to your changes. Sometimes it is not necessarily US that is holding us back, it is those around us, and our desire to please, or not rock the boat!.
- Observe what is different in your life, over the following days or weeks.
Some clients discover that their thinking is more expansive, some report that things are so much more freed up in their lives, and things that seemed stuck or restrictive now flow and have melted away. Some realise that the things they thought they were afraid of, were just thoughts about what “might be, or what someone might say”.
